Solar control glasses either reflect or absorb solar radiation.

Heat-absorbing solar control glass is made by adding some chemicals into the liquid glass; that chemicals tincture glass in greenish-blue or gray tones. Such glass transmits 65-75% of the sunshine and only 30-35% of the infrared rays, and its ability to transmit rays depends on its thickness. If heat-absorbing glass is dark, it will become very hot (50-70 C degrees more than ambient temperature), that why it’s not recommended to use such glass in the outer glazing. It’s also not recommended to expose it by uneven heating and cooling.

Other type of solar control glass is glass, supplied with thin oxide metal, ceramic or polymer covering, transparent to the visible ray’s spectrum. These coverings are applied on the one of the surfaces of a simple colourless glass. They absorb part of the infrared rays as well, but they get hot less and their features d not depend on their thickness.

Thanks to solar control glass room can stay cool in summer. Contrast and brightness of the lighted objects also becomes lower. As a result, eyestrain becomes lower, to. However, this glass won’t protect from the direct sunlight, so it’s good idea to get rid off jalousie or curtains.
