Multilayer or so-called laminated glass is a glass, produced by putting together two o more layers, which are “pasted” by special pellicle or laminar liquid. Layers can be made of glass of different types, straight or curved in compliance with required shape. Layers must be shaped before pasting.
Lamination process is a complex process, so it’s done by computer-aided production line in several stages. The last stage is carried out in autoclave room under the impact of heat and pressure. Lamination doesn’t increase the mechanical strength of glass, but makes it safer – fracture fragments scatter but stay hanging on the elastic pellicle. In addition, laminated glass is good in protection from UV. Laminated glass is often used to make windows with hacking, heat and noise protection; bulletproof glass is also one of types of laminated glass.
