Today, glass floors can be seen as a spectacular interior element in administrative and office buildings, shopping malls, concert halls, restaurants and boutiques. Interiors of the apartments and town houses did not done without the influence of this newfangled trend.

One of the main requirements for flooring is their reliability and durability. Glass floor is a metal construction, in which glass panels are fixed. The panels are made of multilayer triplex that can withstand very high loads (up to 400 kg/m2). Triplex consists of two or more layers of glass between which layers of laminating film laminating or liquid is laid. By the way, in recent years the new triplex manufacturing technologies has appeared – they use mirrors instead of the film or the inner layer panel is made up of broken glass.

Glass can be used to design a floor covering as follows:
separate elements (just imagine a glass «window» closing gap in the floor);
in the form of tape (glazed «path» focusing the attention on a part of the room);
in the form of a large glass plate (glass plate, covering almost the entire surface of the floor).
In addition, some people resolve to such architectural sophistication as the glass floor-ceiling overlap.

Flight of designer’s fantasy virtually unlimited. Partitions can be matt and toned; application of color film and drawings by screen printing can be printed on them, and they can be decorated by sandblasting or equipped with illuminated devices, and even aquariums and terrariums can be done in them. Of course, such an element of decor is interesting and attractive, and few remain indifferent at the sight of a magnificent masterpiece, made of the usual glass.

Nevertheless, like any other floor covering, glass floor has its own advantages and disadvantages.
So, the main advantages are:

1) The glass surface is not conducive to breeding of various bacteria and germs; therefore, such floor is very hygienic.
2) Triplex is durable and waterproof material, resistant to chemical influences.
3) If neon tubes or fluorescent lamps are set during the installation, you can get an extra source of lighting.
4) Tape elements (paths), placed on along the perimeter of the room, produce the effect of extending the boundaries of visual space.

However, besides the advantages of a glass floor there are also many drawbacks:

1) Glass floors have quite slippery surface. Sandblasting of еру glass is used to solve this problem – after it surface becomes rough.

2) Scratches and abrasions appear on any glass surface, which is subjected to intensive use. To avoid this, high quality glass panels should be used, the upper layer of which is made of tempered glass.

3) Glass floors, depending on the materials used, the footprint and complexity of the installation work can become quite expensive interior decoration.

And do not forget that the most attractive such floor covering looks in spacious rooms with high ceilings.
